The line was shut in 1956 but is now reopened thanks to enthusiasts. Its population is 6,269 as of 2001. The town is featured as part of the ‘Glyndwr’s way’ trail that runs through the town as part of a national trail.

Llandudno is one of North Wales’s premier tourist destinations. It has so much to offer people of all ages and attracts many of the same people year after year. It is particularly popular with older people as it is a very flat place and easy to walk around.

Looking out over the long promenade that stretches between two magnificent headlands the Little Orme and the Great Orme, you will always see an abundant of people strolling along taking in the magnificent views of the ocean, Great Orme and the long stretch of Victorian buildings that stretch the whole length of the promenade. These Victorian building are now predominantly Llandudno hotels.

Llandudno really does have a wide variety of activities for all ages. It has two lovely beaches, the North Shore and the West Shore. The North Shore is an award winning beach, with a delightful crescent shape and golden sands. The grade II listed pier at the end is just magnificent and houses numerous kiosks, souvenir shops and rides. It’s a lovely place to spend an afternoon whilst eating your fish and chips. West Shore has distinctive sand dunes and amazing views over the Conwy Mountains. It faces Anglesey and Snowdonia.

The Great Orme is a must for any visitor to Llandudno, and there are many ways to reach the top. You can travel by cable car which is a distance of one mile each way, the longest aerial cabin lift in the UK, which was build in 1969. Travelling by cable car offers magnificent views over happy valley gardens and the Great Orme Cliffs out to sea.

The Great Orme Tramway is another lovely way to travel to the top. The Tram was opened in 1902, and is the only cable operated street tramway surviving in the UK today, and only 3 of these are left in the world.

You can also drive to the top around Marine Drive which offers amazing views and has numerous places to park on-route so that you can take in the views.

If you are feeling energetic then you can also walk to the summit. There are various routes to the top and as you can imagine the scenery is just superb. You can take the cable car or tram back to the bottom if you wish.

There are many things to do and explore on the Great Orme including the dry ski slopes, the copper mines, and copper miners village, mini golf and there is a large visitor’s centre at the top and also a restaurant and gift shop.

Llandudno has a wide selection of bars, restaurants and shops, with both high street stores and unique boutiques.

You will really be spoilt for choice for things to do in and around Llandudno.

LLandudno Victorian Extravaganza

Established in 1986 the Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza is an annual event which takes place on the May Day Bank holiday weekend.

It brings in an average of 250,000 ranging from locals to tourists and approximately £15million revenue for the local community.

The Victorian Extravaganza is a great day out for all the family, over the years has seen a great array of entertainment such jugglers, stilt walkers, people parading in Victorian costumes as they did in the old days, and town criers. A very important part of the Victorian Extravaganza is the transport festival, which attracts a large range of exhibits including lorries, military and buses, motorcycles, tractors, bicycles, and both vintage and classic cars.

The Great Parade is also incorporated into the Victorian Extravaganza every year, and is wonderful for all to see. The route is approximately ¾ mile and lasts for about 45mins.

This year saw an increase in the amount of people travelling from all over the UK and also an increase in the number of people dressing up in Victorian costumes. This is a great sign of things to come as next year sees the 25th anniversary of the Victorian Extravaganza.

The BBC recently published an article about how in the last year the amount of beaches recommended in "The Good Beach Guide" has fallen.

The amount of beaches recommended by the Good Beach Guide has dropped by 74, the most it has ever dropped in the guide's history.

This year could be a record year for the UK travel & tourism industry, with the weak pound, credit crunch & less money around, people are opting to holiday in the UK rather than abroad. A number of traditional seaside resorts have seen an increase in popularity, with Torquay & Newquay leading the way with a 160% increase in searches since last year on popular website hotels.co.uk.

Furthermore, there has been an increase in searches in Blackpool (140%), Jersey (120%), Llandudno (130%) and Bournemouth (80%).

This is great for the areas mentioned, which has seen a decline in popularity in recent years, with foreign climates proving more appealing. Nevertheless, the hope is that visitors will come and discover these places, find out that they love them, and return year after year.

Furthermore, with the weak pound, tourists from Europe & the United States have been arriving in mass to these destinations. For backpackers especially, now is really the best time to explore the UK.

On a personal note (as a Llandudno resident) I'm glad to see a rise in popularity of Llandudno Hotels & Self Catering Llandudno properies with people having difficult years up to now. Things are looking up!

I have always loved visiting areas in the UK for short breaks; it’s amazing how visually stunning places in the UK are without even realising it. We are all to busy in our day to day lives to notice just how much enjoyment some of our coastal areas have to offer.

Llandudno is an old Victorian town, and has managed to keep a lot of its attractive Victorian architecture. Llandudno still has its Victorian award winning pier built in 1876 which stretches 1,234 feet. The pier offers entertainment, bars, cafes, souvenir shops, and a break taking view of Llandudno shore line. Next to the pier in Llandudno is The Great Orme. This offers the visitor a beautiful, smooth ride on the tram to the summit; here you can visit the Bronze Age copper mines. Also for the adrenaline seekers The Great Orme offers a dry ski slope, and a toboggan.

Along the North coastline of Llandudno, there are a number of hotels. Most of these beautiful Victorian hotels where built between 1850-1875.
